Hailing from the northern Tasmanian town of Penguin, Sharn Hayward has dreamed of playing in the WNBL since she was a kid. Growing up, Sharn represented Tasmania in the U20 national championships and signed with the Launceston Tornadoes for the 2021 NBL1 season, making five appearances. From there, Sharn chose US college route, joining the Stonehill College Skyhawks in Massachusetts. Her four-year college career culminated in a breakout 2024/2025 season which saw her led the team in scoring (15.8ppg) while knocking down 111 three-pointers, fourth all-time in Northeast Conference history. Her exploits drew national attention, as she was once featured on ESPNs SportsCenter for dropping 11 three-pointers in a game.
Upon returning to Australia earlier this year, she signed with the Willetton Tigers in the NBL1 West. In 12 games she averaged 11.3ppg and helped the Tigers reach the elimination final. Sharn joins the Caps as a development player and has been praised by players and coaches for her hard work and shooting ability.
Off the court, Sharn completed an Elementary Education and Psychology degree at Stonehill, and aspires to work as a school teacher after basketball.
