The UC Capitals are excited to announce the signing of New Zealand international Emme Shearer for the remainder of the WNBL26 season.

Shearer most recently played professionally in New Zealand in the Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa league where she helped lead the Tuaranga Whai to the championship. For the season, the 1.83m guard averaged 15.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting 38% from 3.

Shearer spent five years playing college ball for the Portland Pilots in the US NCAA and graduated last year. In her final year, she led the team in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game.

“Emme’s someone that I’ve kept an eye on the past few years with interest to see how her game would develop. She’s a great perimeter shooter, has good length as a guard, athletic, and can run the floor, and we needed somebody that can stretch the defense and make some shots” said Head Coach Paul Goriss.

“There’s no huge expectation or pressure put on her for coming in at this point in the season, but we’re really excited to work with her and see what she can do with us and in the WNBL.”

Shearer will be available to play this weekend against the Sydney Flames.
