The University of Canberra Capitals have officially hit the ground running, with the squad settling into Canberra and getting to work ahead of the 2026/27 WNBL season.
With athletes arriving in the nation’s capital this week, preseason has provided the first opportunity for the group to come together, establish new routines and begin building the foundations for the season ahead.
While the focus has quickly shifted to the court, there has also been plenty of time for the playing group to get to know Canberra, settle into their new surroundings and reconnect with familiar faces.
For returning athletes, including Isa Brancatisano, preseason has also been an opportunity to step into leadership roles and help welcome new faces into the Capitals environment.
For Nicole Munger, who returns to the Capitals for another season, having Brancatisano back in the group was a particularly welcome sight.
“And then just chatting with Isa, I think she is such an incredible leader and role model,” Munger said.
“When I saw she re-signed with the club, I was just so thankful to see somebody so amazing as she is.
“And I knew – between her, Goz, Christie, Natty, everybody – that the club was heading in such a great direction and I’m just really excited to be a part of a really solid group with really solid people.”
That sense of connection and character is something Munger believes will be central to the Capitals’ season.
“I think that's what we want to hang our hat on and, you know, really work hard and just leave it all out there, leave no stone unturned,” she said.
“I think that's what I'm really excited for.”
With preseason now underway, the Capitals will continue to build their on-court chemistry, establish their systems and prepare for the challenges of a new WNBL campaign.
For the newest members of the squad, it is a chance to experience Canberra and the Capitals environment for the first time. For the returning group, it is an opportunity to help set the tone for what lies ahead.
The Caps open their season at AIS Arena on October 17, secure a membership to catch all the action this summer.
